We had a wonderful time on Halloween weekend. It was a pleasure to visit Mark and Meredith Richmond in their home on Lookout Mountain, TN. We are always excited when they come to Greenville, but it was extra special to spend two whole days with them! We went trick-or-treating in their neighborhood, and our kids and their two oldest boys all dressed as superheroes!
We ate lots of yummy food, took the kids bike riding on a bridge, and talked a lot about Jesus. It was good for our souls to relax and be with dear friends who are willing to ask hard questions and are full of encouragement and wisdom.
On Sunday, we went to New City Fellowship, a multicultural PCA church in Chattanooga. It was Youth Sunday, and we enjoyed hearing the teens lead the worship and their offertory song. Pastor Kevin Smith preached on Psalm 51 and focused on repentance. After Worship, we went to Randy & Joan Nabors’ house and had brunch with them, their adult daughter, and Wy and Shirley Plummer. Randy planted New City Fellowship and is now over the MNA Mercy Ministries. Wy is over African-American Ministries with MNA.
Our meal was delicious, and we had good conversations as well. Randy and Wy were encouraging and affirming of JP’s plan for getting to know the community of Orangeburg and his strategy for church planting. We got to ask all of our questions and brainstormed a bit about college ministries. We really enjoyed our time and were thankful for the Richmonds holding down the fort with our children!
Another benefit of our weekend in Chattanooga was connecting with the New City Network. This is a collection of church plants that are urban, cross-cultural, include the poor, have joyful worship, and sound biblical preaching. As members of the Network, we will be able to attend their conferences and learn from the wealth of wisdom and experience of those who have gone before us. We look forward to getting to know these folks better.
